InQueery – I’m From Driftwood: A Special Evening Focused on Storytelling
- This event has passed.
Join us for an evening of conversation and story sharing with Nathan Manske, the founder of I’m from Driftwood on Tuesday April 19th at 6:00 pm in the Education Center at the Gay Alliance LGBTQ Resource Center, 100 College Ave. Rochester, NY. 14607.
Nathan Manske is the founder and Executive Director of the nonprofit organization I’m From Driftwood, which collects and shares first-person LGBTQ stories from around the country and the world. In this story-sharing event, Nathan will discuss the science behind storytelling and why it’s such a powerful tool. He will also share several of the stories he’s collected the past 7 years.
I’m From Driftwood envisions a world where every lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer person feels understood and accepted, and every straight person is an ally.
I’m From Driftwood aims to help LGBTQ people learn more about their community, straight people learn more about their neighbors, and everyone learn more about themselves through the power of storytelling and story sharing.
Increasing empathy and empowering individuals is accomplished by creating an apolitical forum for LGBTQ stories from every age, race, gender, background and culture. The stories deepen our understanding of each other, preserve history, and open hearts and minds.
Since launching I’m From Driftwood in March, 2009, people all over the world have shared stories from their lives. The result is an open, honest, and genuine look into what it’s like to be LGBTQ throughout the world. The expanding, inclusive archive of stories not only preserves our history, but reminds people that they’re part of a larger community and never truly alone
