LGBTQ Senior Health Quest
Admit it. You procrastinate on taking care of your health – you hate to diet and your Wii Fit has been collecting dust for a year. So we want you to try something different. Monday March 7 marks the launch of our new 8 week community wellness initiative: “LGBTQ Health Quest”, a peer-supported health improvement program made possible in part by a grant from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation. This series is focused on LGBTQ people over 50 who are invited to learn about the latest health research and try a multitude of new health-enhancing behaviors that are based in fun and socialization. Food & fitness experts will demonstrate simple ways to improve the way we eat and increase the physical activity levels in our lives.
Prepare & taste healthy Mediterranean, Asian & plant-based cooking and monitor your daily steps with a free pedometer. Yoga master and personal fitness expert Tom Somerville will show ways to step up your activity at your own pace… using yoga, resistance bands, line dance & more. The program promises “no diets and no guilt”. Instead we will add positives to our daily routines such as: 5 fruits & veggies, 5 glasses of water, 5 minutes of planning etc.
The program requires an 8 week commitment with the ability to attend Mondays 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the LGBTQ Resource Center beginning March 7. Space is limited so call and sign up today. A second series will be offered in May/June. There is no cost to this program. You can find more information on the Facebook page: “LGBTQ Health Quest”.
