Parking InformationSchedule of Events

July 19, 2009 will be a special day, as several thousand lgbt people and their friends spend a summer afternoon of relaxation and socializing by the Genesee River at the Pride Picnic.

The green fields beside the river will be full of people playing volleyball or frisbee; setting up picnic baskets, coolers and lawn chairs (some people even bring plastic palm trees); entering dogs in the fashion show; shopping at colorful vendor booths for cool outfits, souvenirs or tasty treats; playing with their kids in the Families area; checking out the antique car display; chatting at the tables in the Information Pavilion or dancing (a la Tea Dance) and flirting in the Roundhouse. The Picnic will run from 1-7 p.m.

The Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley’s mission statement states that the Gay Alliance is dedicated to cultivating a healthy inclusive environment where all individuals of all sexual orientations and gender expressions are safe, thriving and enjoy full equal rights.

The picnic, which is sponsored by the Gay Alliance and the final event of Rochester Pride Week. The Alliance uses this event to celebrate community pride and raise funds to support programs such as our Youth Services, Community Outreach Program, Anti-Violence/Community Safety Project and other programs.

Only people with valid tickets will be allowed into this reserved section of the park. There will be a separate entrance for those who have already purchased tickets. Those who do not purchase tickets in advance may do so on site. Handicapped parking will be in the lot by the Roundhouse and proper permits will be strictly enforced. Alternate parking will be available in the University of Rochester parking lots.

Advance tickets will be $10 for pre-purchase, and $15 “at the gate”. Tickets are available at Parkleigh, Outlandish and Equal Grounds.
