Library & Archives

We are pleased to welcome you to our new location in the Out Alliance LGBTQ Resource Center! You can find us at 100 College Ave., near Village Gate. Parking is available out front. Come visit our new space and check out our collection of over 10,000 items including books, periodicals, and DVDs.

Thank you for all your donations. However, until September 1, the Library cannot accept new donations, but we will make exceptions for rare and one-of-a-kind items as well as archival materials. Contact Library Director Gerry Szymanski at for more information.

The Out Alliance Library & Archives uses the website “Library Thing” for our on-line catalog. We’re adding items to it each week – to check our holdings… Click Here!

The Out Alliance Library is a circulating and reference collection of over 6,000 fiction and non-fiction books, and 800 magazine and journal titles, as well as video and audio recordings related to gay and lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer issues.

The Out Alliance Archives house a historic collection of copies of The Empty Closet newspaper, as well as vital paper records and ephemera of the events, organizations, and people important to the Rochester LGBTQ community.

The Out Alliance Library is also home for two Internet connected computers (PC’s) that are available, free of charge, for use by community members during open hours.  Computers are available with the assistance of the David Bohnett Foundation, Cyber Center initiative.
