Lilac Library

We are proud to house the largest LGBTQIA+ library of its kind in New York State, and one of the largest in the country, with over 11,000 materials!

Community Center

Our new community resource center is an accessible, collaborative space for Rochester’s rainbow community to come together.

Online Resource Directory

Our resource directory reflects the vast amounts of organizations (both LGBTQ led, and those that serve the community) which we use for referrals, collaborations, education, and information sharing.

Today, libraries are more important than ever

Libraries provide a safe space for the spread of ideas and information. These days unfortunately, our libraries are under attack due for supporting and affirming LBGTQIA+ lives and identities. Our library is the largest collection of it’s type in New York, with over 11,000 items including periodicals, fiction, non-fiction, and rare collections.

A collaborative, community led center

In honor of Trans Day of Visibility 2024, we’re doing a mutual aid campaign to provide direct support to trans folks in need. The Rainbow Union will raise funds to distribute directly to trans people. On March 31, any person who identifies as trans, non-binary, genderqueer, or any other trans identity will be able to apply to receive funds ranging from $20 (a nice snack amount) to $250 (a big snack…or rent, or for anything else they need).

We will accept applications on this page on March 31 until funds run out. Priority will be given to applicants in Central and Western New York, but anyone in the trans community is invited to apply.

Trans people deserve rights, safety, respect, and support. But most of all, they deserve snacks.
